From the supplier: Stokely USA Inc has installed a system for recycling its unsalable canned vegetables at its Waunakee, WI, plant. The cans are fed into a shredding machine, then into a magnetic separator which removes the can metal from the vegetable material. The final products are vegetable material suitable for animal feed and recyclable steel with only a 2.3%, by weight, vegetable material content. Stokely expects that recycling its cans will save the Waunakee plant $34,000 annually and plans to recycle cans from other plants in the same way.
